I have to admit, this is my favourite time of year. I love the start of the new season with all the gorgeous newness to be inspired by and TBH, I just love getting cosy without it being too cold!

The summer wardrobe is being safely packed away until next year and I’m enjoying getting all my old sweatshirts and jackets out in readiness. I love to revisit my Pinterest boards to see what I have pinned over the year and this helps inspire me to get ready for the next season and to look at any gaps that I might have in my own wardrobe that may need filling.

I highly recommend you look over any saved images on Instagram or Pinterest or if you don’t save the, it’s a good time to start. Every time you see an outfit that you really love, save it to a board so that when you’re feeling uninspired and at a loss to know what to wear, then you can take a look at your saved images for some inspo.

For me, this season is all about layering. The weather is still unsure of what it’s doing, so at any one time we can go from baltic to a mild heatwave! So have a few basics that will serve you well in the layering department. Items like light knitwear, long sleeve tees, socks, cardigans and light jackets will really come in handy during this transitional period.

For me, I’ll be wearing wide leg trousers, jeans, long skirts, leather pieces, light jackets, trench coats, sweatshirts and light knits. I’n excited for the new season. Are you?

Below are some items that have caught my eye this week that are perfect for transitional dressing. The first 10 are for all my subscribers then the rest are for paid subscribers only.

Arket have a 15% discount running sitewide until tomorrow (Monday) and I have a list as long as my arm! These ballerinas are already my basket. A great shape and the snakeskin really helps to elevate a jeans and sweater combo. Really worth looking on the site if you’re looking to add a few pieces to your autumn wardrobe. Minimum spend of £100 applies. Shop here

Snake ballerinas, £149

Socks. I talk a lot about them and they’re a great transitional item to wear especially with sandals. These are great, they have the longer length which you can bunch down like the model is wearing here. But also will be great worn up to the knees under trousers and long skirts for that extra bit of warmth when it gets colder. I’m not a fan of tights, so long socks are a great alternative.

Ribbed socks, £12.99

A wide leg trouser is the perfect transitional piece that will take you into Autumn all the way through to Spring. For a little bit of an update, these cargo ones are a great way to keep your wardrobe looking fresh. Team with a white tee and slimline loafers for a classic yet elevated look.

Cargo trousers, £135

I’m so in love with this cashmere jumper with open sleeves. You can either wear it as a tank and keep the arms loose, tie the arms round your neck like a scarf or put your arms through the sleeves and wear as a jumper. Yes, it’s an investment item, but it’s such a great easy piece that has a touch of the unexpected. Definitely a forever item. I also love the grey but that isn’t available in the UK. For any US readers, you’re in luck as it comes in 6 different colours.

Cashmere sweater, £610

#5

When it starts to get a bit cooler, a merino roll neck can come in handy as it’s a great layering piece. Wear under shirts or blazers for instant coziness and then when Winter kicks in, wear it as an extra layer under a chunky knit. This one is comes in 10 different colours. Perfect.

Merino rollneck, £45

A fine knit is a great option when it gets a little chillier and these gilets look good either worn on their own or over a shirt/tee. The other bonus is they look great with jeans and trainers but also a smart trouser suit for work. A really versatile piece.

Fine knit gilet, £22.99 comes in beige, black and green.

#7

It might be Autumn, but Bermuda shorts can still be an option. Opt for a tailored style that is to the knee or below. I love to add a knee high wide shaft boot that goes under the hem of the shorts (we don’t want any skin showing). Alternatively add socks and trainers for a cool girl city vibe.

Left to right. Black shorts, £125. Stripe shorts, £88. Cargo shorts, £44

#8

Sometimes it’s the little touches that can update a simple outfit. Like adding a cute neck scarf tied loosely round the neck. Paired with a white tee, blue jeans and loafers, it’s an instant Autumn update. Just add a knit round the shoulders or a light jacket and you’re all set.

Silk scarf, £155

Leather jackets always have their moment at this time of year. They’re the perfect jacket to grab when it’s colder and give an elevated touch to an outfit. I love this bonded leather jacket from Whistles. I bought it in the black just before summer and then didn’t have. change to wear it. I’m pleased to say it’s back in stock but I don’t think it’ll be around for long. It also comes in brown and I love the look of that colour too. Leather bombers are a great option for this season too. Perfect for just slinging on over a t-shirt.

From left. Leather black & brown jackets, £449. Leather bomber jacket £429.

You can’t say transitional dressing without thinking of a trench coat. It’s the king of transitional coats and as we go into Autumn, it’s the perfect time to invest in one as no doubt you’ll be wearing it all year until next summer. This one is one of my faves and it’s back in stock in all sizes up to a UK 22.

Trench coat, £189
