Hello friends, how are you all? I hope you’re having a great week.

For this months ‘Ask Anna’ I am doing one big post about organising your wardrobe. I have had multiple questions all on a similar vain about creating a capsule wardrobe, how to begin sorting everything out and when to know that it’s the right time to let something go. So I thought the new year would be a great time to tackle this rather large subject.

The beginning of the year is a great time to start afresh with your wardrobe. And by that I don’t mean throw everything out and start again. I just mean look at it with fresh eyes. Think about where you want your wardrobe to go, what you no longer wear and ultimately how you want your clothes to make you feel.

I tend to go through my wardrobe section by section, try everything on and think of ways that I can wear the pieces. For example, if i’m looking at my skirts, what different ways can I wear each one. Does it suit my style? Does it fit me properly?

Sections can include:

Tops, trousers, shirts, knitwear, skirts, dresses, jeans, outerwear, underwear. But the list isn’t exhaustive, your sections can be whatever works for you.

You might have time to do it all over one weekend. But it doesn’t have to be all at once. You can take a few weeks or even a few months to go through your whole wardrobe. A couple of hours a week is all you need to make a start. What I would say is create a relaxing space with a hot drink and perhaps a candle or your favourite music. Make sure your room is tidy before you start as it can be really stressful if you get out all your clothes into an already messy room. You want to make sure that everything is put away before you start so you don’t get confused and accidentally discard something that you may later regret.

Think about what items you spend most of your time in. Is it jeans or gym gear? Make sure these items are accessible so that you can easily reach them on a daily basis. When sorting out your wardrobe, it’s important not to forget about things like workout wear and nightwear as these can sometimes get left to last and then there’s no space for them. A good idea is to write out a list of every section and plan where they could go before you start the whole organising process. Knowing how much space you have for each section can make it easier when deciding whether to keep something or not. If you know you only have one shelf, then it might give you a kick up the bum to be a bit more ruthless.

So once you have a tidy serene space, you can begin.
